Four Cherokee County School District students are advancing to the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair!

CCSD middle and high school students compete at a regional event, which was held earlier this month at Georgia Highlands College, for the opportunity to vie for top honors at the statewide fair in April at the University of Georgia.  Elementary school students compete separately in the Georgia College K-5 State Science Fair.

Congratulations to the honorees and their teachers and thank you to the School Board for its continued investment in STEM learning and research.

Woodstock High School sophomores Karsyn Gilbreath, pictured at left, and Yayra Hodasi, right, qualified for the state fair and together earned the Excellence in Community Impact award for the senior division.  They are students in the school’s Scientific Research program led by teacher Sarah Brennan.

Cobb EMC and Gas South sponsor CCSD’s participation in the competition by paying student registration fees.  The companies also present special awards to students with accompanying gift cards, as does the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority (CCWSA).

Hudson earned a $50 prize from CCWSA, as did three Woodstock HS students: Alexandra Clark, Keelin Murray, and Anya Pretorius, all students in Ms. Brennan’s classes.  Karsyn and Yayra earned $25 prizes.

Four students earned $50 prizes from Cobb EMC and Gas South: Maddie Barnes of Creekland MS, teacher Eric Norris; Pranav Vasishta of E.T. Booth MS, teacher Ms. Flieger; and of Woodstock MS, Avyukt Arun and Hudson Montgomery, teacher Jessica Pinkston.  Six earned $25 prizes: Pradhyumna Vasishta of Etowah HS, teacher John Murnan; of Freedom MS, Sara Holmberg and Madison Roosekrans, teacher Edwin Rodriguez; and of Woodstock HS, Grayson Hunter, Adele Johnson, and Ivy Lamar, teacher Ms. Brennan.
