What’s the most innovative idea that you’ve tried in your classroom?
While prioritizing the needs and engagement of my students, who typically have emotional and behavioral tendencies, I have found that the most innovative technique is simple yet effective.  Interactive lessons require my students to engage in the lessons through hands-on and active learning instead of passively receiving information.
Who is the best teacher you ever had and what made him or her special?
Ms. Cox at Woodstock High School.  She made learning interactive and fun.  She was the reason I decided to become a teacher.  I can still sing all the songs we learned in her class for our tests.  Fun fact: she is my next-door neighbor!
What can parents do to prepare their children for learning?
The best thing parents can do to prepare their children is to read to them and encourage reading every day.  10 minutes a day will go a long way.  Organization is the second priority.  Go through their bookbag with them at night and help keep things organized.
What are the obstacles to getting all kids to achieve?
The biggest obstacle I find is the buy-in.  Students want a real-life connection and a reason and that is often left out.  If we can make those necessary connections, I believe most of the obstacles will subside.
